ESJ校長の一平さんと5人のESJジュニアメンバーと3人のOGメンバーで成田空港からフランクフルトに向けて出発しました。
ロシアとウクライナの戦争の影響でフライトは通常よりも2時間長い14時間でしたが、窓からは北極やアラスカの氷河の素晴らしい景色を見ることができました！
フライトを終え、5時間電車に乗り、ビーレフェルトに着きました。
そこではヤン先生と牧人さんがお出迎えしてくれました。
長時間のフライトで疲れていましたが、みんなこの日をとても楽しみにしていたので大興奮でした！

Day 1 was primarily a travel day!
Five ESJ Junior members and three OG Junior members met up at Narita Airport to depart for Frankfurt, Germany 🇩🇪!
Our flight was extended to 14 hours, two hours longer than usual, due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We flew over the North Pole and Alaska, which provided an astounding view from above!
After the 14-hour flight and a 5-hour train ride, we arrived in Bielefeld, Germany. There, we met Jan Treptow, German master.
Despite a long day of travel leaving us exhausted, we were excited for the coming day!

最初にフィルゼンドルフで馬に乗り、ジュニアとOG全員でヤン・トレプトゥ先生のレッスンを受けました。初めて出会い、初めて乗った馬たちでしたが、全員上手に乗ることができました。
次にケバブ屋さんに寄り、そこでドイツの伝統的な料理をいただきました。この写真はジュニアのメンバーがブラットブルストと呼ばれるソーセージを頬張っている写真です！ほとんど全員が初めてドイツ料理を食べましたが、日本とは異なる味に驚きつつも美味しくいただくことができました。
昼食後は、馬具屋さんに行きました。これほど大きく品揃えが豊富な馬具屋さんは日本には無いので、みんな楽しく買い物をすることができました。値段も日本よりも安く、ブーツやヘルメット、キュロット、試合用のシャツやジャケットなどそれぞれ色々なものを買いました。
私たちは美しい自然に囲まれたペンションに行きました。その後は町のレストランへ40分間歩いて向かいました。時差ボケで疲れていたけれどドイツの森林を散策すると気分がリフレッシュされました。レストランではヤン先生とお話をしながら美味しいお食事をいただきました。

On Day 2, we had several exciting activities planned!
First, we went to Vilsendorf for a horse ride. All of our juniors rode together under Jan Treptow’s guidance. It was our first time meeting and riding the horses. We were able to ride quite well!
Next, we stopped for lunch at a kebab restaurant where we also tried traditional German food. In the picture, you can see Haruka biting into one :). For most of us, it was our first time tasting traditional food, it was so different from japanese traditional food and it tasted amazing!
After lunch, we went to a tack shop to buy some items for ourselves! The shop had everything we wanted in stock. Since we don’t have big tack shops in Japan, it was amazing! The prices were lower than in Japan too!! We bought boots, helmets, breeches, show shirts, show jackets and so much more!!!
We then returned to our hotel located in a more forested area. After settling in, we went on a 40-minute walk to get dinner. The walk, which was more like a hike through the German forest, was a refreshing experience. We ate Italian food to conclude our day! We were pretty jet-lagged but tried to stay up during our dinner!!

ヤン先生と共にフィルゼンドルフの厩舎を訪れるのは3度目になり、私たちは自分の乗った馬に愛着が湧いて、会うのがとても楽しみでした。その後、軽い昼食をとった後、ワーレンドルフにあるDOKRというドイツオリンピックトレーニングセンターに向かいました。
そこではその施設を統括しているマークスシャーマンさんが出迎えてくださり、様々なお話を聞くことができました。ドイツの馬術チームが獲得した沢山のトロフィーやメダルが飾られている展示室を見せていだだいたり、悪天候で全て見ることはできなかったけれど、それぞれ役割の異なる4つの屋内馬場と6つの屋外馬場の一部を見学しました。
そのツアーの最中に、私たちはドイツを代表する著名な選手にお会いしました。2022年の東京オリンピックの総合馬術で金メダルを獲得したユリア・クライエフスキー選手や、軍隊で馬に関わり、選手としても活躍しているジェローム・ロビンズ選手のお話を聞くことができ、貴重な経験ができました。
マークス・シャーマンさんがツアーの後に大切なことを話してくださいました。彼は、馬についての教育が馬とライダーの安全の双方においていかに重要であるかを私たちに教えてくださいました。馬は人間の行動を敏感に感じ取り、その影響を受けやすい動物です。だからこそ、馬の習性とニーズを理解するためには規律と知識が必要になるとマークスさんはおっしゃいました。馬についてよく知ることによって、人間は馬をより適切に世話し、乗馬においてより馬たちの幸福と安全が守られた環境を作り出すことができます。
さらに、私たちはシャーマンさんに質問をする機会をいただきました。馬術の分野に関わる仕事に就くことを考えているジュニアの質問にも丁寧に答えてくださいました。馬を理解することは、馬術の世界では不可欠であることを学ぶことができました。
夕方は車で宿泊施設に帰りましたが、途中のレストランでドイツの伝統料理をいただきました。

Day 3!! March 22nd – We had more exciting activities planned!!
For the third time, we visited Vilsendorf to ride the horses, guided by Jan Treptow. We were already familiar with the horses, so it was an incredible experience to ride them again. Afterward, we grabbed a quick lunch before heading to the DOKR, the German Olympic Training Facility, located in Warendorf, Germany.
We had a scheduled tour with Markus Scharmann, the head of the facility. We were shown the award hall, which housed various trophies and medals won by the German equestrian teams. We saw four indoor arenas, each dedicated to different disciplines, and six different outdoor arenas. Due to the weather, we couldn’t see all of the outdoor arenas, but we managed to see some.
During our tour, we met a few of Germany’s top riders, including Julia Krajewski, an eventing rider who won the Tokyo 2022 Olympics. We also met Jerome Robine, another eventing rider who serves in the military more on the horse side and rides there.
After we had time to talk to Markus Schaemann. He educated us about how education about horses is crucial for both the safety of the horse and the rider. Horses are highly perceptive animals that mirror our behavior. Therefore, understanding their behavior and needs requires discipline and knowledge. By educating ourselves about horses, we can better care for them, ensure their wellbeing, and create a safer environment for riding. Additionally, we were able to ask Markus questions. He provided a solid foundation for some of us who are interested in pursuing careers in the equine field. Understanding horses is not just beneficial, but essential in the world of equestrianism.
Following the tour, we had a long car ride. We decided to stop at a restaurant for dinner, where we enjoyed traditional German food, kebabs, and more.

この日はフィルゼンドルフの厩舎には行かず、その代わりに朝からヤン先生の厩舎に向かいました。そこでは牧人さん(一平さんの長男で、ヤン先生に師事している）が5歳の馬に乗ったり別の馬の調馬策をしている様子を見学しました。若馬にまたがるときや乗る時に特に気をつけることを教わり、どのように若馬を調教するのかを見るのはとても興味深かったです。
次にローカル試合を見に行きました。一平さんは私たちに様々なレベルの選手を見てほしいと思い、アマチュアライダーの試合に連れて行ってくれました。会場では昼食を取ることもできました。たくさんの馬やライダーを見ることができ、刺激を受けました。
その後はペンションに戻り、自由時間となりました。私たちは山の頂上までハイキングに行きました。雨が降りそうだったので急いで帰りましたが、帰り道には鹿の群れを見ることができました。
1日の終わりにはペンションでヤン先生と美味しいディナーをいただきました。ドイツの伝統料理であるパプリカソースのシュニッツェルは絶品でした！

Day 4! March 23rd
This day, we didn’t ride the horses from Vilsendorf. Instead, we went straight to Jan Trewptow’s stable to watch Makito（Ippei san’ son) ride a 5-year-old horse and then lunge a different horse. It was interesting to learn how humans train young horses, including the specific ways in which they saddle and ride them.
Next, we headed to a local competition site to watch some dressage tests. It wasn’t a major competition; Ippei-san wanted us to observe more amateur riders performing our tests to understand the varying levels. We also had a quick lunch there. Watching different horses and riders was very enlightening.
Afterward, we returned to the pension and had some free time. Some of us decided to go hiking. We climbed to the top of the mountain, spotting some deer on the way back. As it looked like rain, we quickly headed back.
We ended the day with dinner at the pension, joined by Jan Treptow. We enjoyed traditional German food such as schnitzels with paprika sauce and more!

朝はフィルゼンドルフの厩舎に行きました。3回目の騎乗なので何を気をつけて乗るかもわかってきて、それぞれの馬に上手に乗ることができました。
午後は獣医施設を訪れました。長い間車に乗っていたので、みんなぐっすり眠ってしまいました。施設では、緊急時でも毎日馬の手術をしている施設長の獣医に会いました。
施設は日本に無いほど充実していてCT、MRI、X線、シノスコピーなどを備えていました。様々な目的を果たす複数の厩舎があり、例えば子を産んだばかりの牝馬のためのものもあれば、種牡馬のためのもの、熱のある馬のための隔離厩舎もありました。彼らがそこで扱うさまざまな馬について学ぶことはとても貴重な経験となりました。馬専門の病院とその治療施設を見学する機会はめったになく、特に特別な時間でした。
その後、一平さんが働いていた[Westfälisches Pferdestammbuch](http://www.westfalenpferde.de/en/), を訪れました。広い施設を探索し、馬のオークションが行われる場所に行きました。実際のオークションを見ることはできませんでしたが、オークションが行われる広く綺麗な馬場を見ることができました。
その後、夕食のためにペンションに戻りました。私たちはヤン先生、牧人さん、ヤン先生のパートナーであるラウラさんと伝統的なドイツ料理を楽しみました。みんなとの会話は本当に楽しかったです。

Day 5! March 24th
We returned to Vilsendorf for another day of riding. Having ridden the horses three times already, we knew what to expect from them. Later that day, we visited a veterinary facility. The long car ride gave us time to sleep. At the facility, we met the head vet who operates on horses daily, even in emergencies.
The facility was impressive, equipped with CT, MRI, X-Rays, Scintigraphy, and more. It had multiple stables serving different purposes: some for mares that had just foaled, some for stallions, and isolation areas for horses with fevers. It was an enlightening experience to learn about the different horses they treat there. This visit was particularly special as we rarely get the chance to explore horse hospitals and their treatment areas.
Afterward, we visited Westfälisches Pferdestammbuch where Ippei-san used to work. We walked around the facility and saw the area where horse auctions are held. It was fascinating to see where these auctions take place.
We then returned to the pension for dinner with Jan Trewptow, Makito, and Laura Jan’s partner. We enjoyed the traditional German food and found the environment enjoyable!

ドイツで1日過ごせる最後の日でした。朝、フィルゼンドルフの厩舎に行きました。まだ乗ったことのない馬に乗ったり、仲良くなった馬たちにお別れをしたり、最後の日を満喫しました。その後は、日本では売られていないお土産を買うために地元のスーパーマーケットでショッピングをしました。チョコレート、ドイツならではの食べ物、ハリボのグミなどをたくさん買うことができました！その後、一平さんにトランポリンパークに連れて行ってもらいました。みんな小さな子供のようにはしゃいで遊んでいました！1番楽しかったのはパルクールコースです。走り終えると、名前とタイムが表示されるのでみんな本気で競争していました。それからトランポリンパークから少し離れたところにあるレストランに歩いて行き、パスタ、ピザ、などのイタリアンを楽しみました。レストランは豪華で料理はどれも美味しく、最後の夜を楽しい雰囲気で締めくくることができました。

Day 6! March 25th!
On our last full day in Germany, we returned to Vilsedorf to ride the horses again. Some of us tried riding different horses, taking full advantage of our final day there. We also had some shopping planned. We headed to the local supermarket to buy food we couldn’t find in Japan. We bought a lot of chocolates, traditional foods, and Haribo candies, along with other snacks. Afterwards, Ippei-san dropped us off at a trampoline park. This fun exercise brought back some childhood memories. The most memorable activity was a timed parkour course. Our names were displayed on a TV screen along with our times. It was an enjoyable workout, a nice change from horse riding. Then, we walked to a restaurant located a few blocks away. We enjoyed Italian food, including pasta, pizza, and other delicious dishes. The restaurant was fancy, offering a pleasant atmosphere for our last night and dinner in Germany.

7日目は車、電車、飛行機を乗り継いだ移動の日でした。
朝食後、ペンションでチェックアウトの準備をしました。少し時間があったので馬具屋やスーパーマーケットに寄り、それぞれ追加で好きなものを購入しました。その後は、電車に乗るためフランクフルトの駅に向かいました。旅中に様々な面で私たちを助けてくれたヤン先生と牧人さんにお別れの挨拶をしました。そして4時間電車に乗って空港へ行きました。
20時頃にフランクフルトを出発し、翌17時に成田空港に到着しました。初めてドイツを訪れたメンバーも多く、この旅は本当に素晴らしい経験となりました。またOGやジュニアのメンバーとさらに仲を深めることができ、より良い関係を築くことができました。日本よりも身近な動物として馬が扱われている馬術の本場であるドイツで、馬をサポートする施設やそこで働く人々の思いに触れることができたこの旅は一生の宝物です！

Day 7 was mostly a travel day.
After breakfast, we prepared to check out of the pension. With some spare time, we visited the tack shop for some last-minute purchases, while some of us went to the supermarket for additional shopping. We then headed to the train station to catch our train to Frankfurt. We said goodbye to Jan Treptow and Makito, who had assisted us during the trip, and embarked on our four-hour train ride to the airport.
We departed Frankfurt around 20:00 and arrived at Narita airport at 17:00. The trip was an extraordinary experience, especially since it was our first time in Germany. We bonded with the OG juniors and got an insight into how horses are cared for and treated in Germany, which is not so common in Japan. Overall, it was an amazing trip.
